(Joni Eareckson Tada)
(http://www.joniandfriends.org/jonis-corner/jonis-bio)

(Ricky Trione)
(http://rickytrioneart.com/gallery/)

(Astro Saulter)

“In spite of everything I will rise again: I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing.” ~Vincent Van Gogh (Mental Disability)
Laurel Burch’s story is so inspiring to me! She had an amazing tenacity for life and determination to be an artist despite physical restraints! She had an unquenchable courage to pursue her passion of creating art despite a debilitating disability that would eventually bring an end to her life.
We MUST be inspired and spurred on by these amazing people who are truly overcomers! Please check out my NEW post Lines, Shapes & Abstraction Laurel Burch Mythical Horses Watercolor Resist Painting
Julian Stanczak (Stanczak is disabled -having lost the use of his right arm in a Siberian labor camp during the onset of World War II)
Frida Kahlo (a streetcar accident in 1925 left her disabled)
Chuck Close (Learning and several physical disabilities)
More Artist Who Create Despite Challenges
There are a great many people who are determined to create despite their physical challenges. These are just a couple contemporary artists I ran across who inspired me!
Joni Eareckson Tada
“Joni Eareckson Tada, the Founder and CEO of Joni and Friends International Disability Center, is an international advocate for people with disabilities. A diving accident in 1967 left Joni Eareckson, then 17, a quadriplegic in a wheelchair, without the use of her hands. After two years of rehabilitation, she emerged with new skills and a fresh determination to help others in similar situations.
During her rehabilitation, Joni spent long months learning how to paint with a brush between her teeth. Her high-detail fine art paintings and prints are sought-after and collected.” (http://www.joniandfriends.org/jonis-corner/jonis-bio)

Ricky Trione
“I am the Vine, you are the branches” by Ricky Trione (John 15:5) Despite being blind, Ricky is an artist and inspires others to create art! “Since losing my eyesight, I have learned to use many types of textures to draw sea life. I use Elmer’s Glue, Textured Paints, Crayons, Oil Pastels, Grease Pencils and many more textures. I have fun experimenting with different textures to express my self in art.” (http://rickytrioneart.com/gallery/)

Astro Saulter
Astro was born with cerebral palsy 34 years ago. The condition has severely inhibited his ability to move and communicate. And yet, even with his disabilities, Saulter has not only managed to engage in artwork, he has become a known and established digital artist.
“I take a lot of pride and enthusiasm in imagining and creating new art all the time,” Saulter says. “No matter who you are or where you come from, even if you have a disability, if you have a dream or vision of something that you really want to do in life, you must face it and challenge that goal head on**.”
