Drawing a female face

With 8th grade students, we have created a pencil drawing of a woman’s face, starting from a geometric model in order to have the correct proportions. This exercise made us see how the distances between the elements of the face must be more or less observed to construct a realistic face. Through the geometric structure we realized, for example, that the eyes are located about halfway between the top of the head and chin. A frequent mistake for anyone looking to draw or copy a face is, in fact, to put the eyes much higher, making the head “flat” and disproportionate. The drawings were photographed and then the background was colored to the computer with a filled region of uniform color.
