(以上全部九幅图片均来自谷歌搜索“implied line”(暗示线);

WHAT IS A LINE?
In art, a line is a one-dimensional mark made by a point moving through space, or an infinite series of points arranged in a direction. It is a fundamental element of art that varies in width, length, direction, and texture. Lines are used to define forms, create shape, suggest form and depth, and express emotions, mood, and movement in a composition.
LINES LINES LINEs!
Everywhere the lines.
What kind of lines are there?

Click on each of these images to see them close up. Study what all 3 have in common.
What defines the image? Is there a border?

(all images above were found on googling
"implied line".
I do not claim them as my own images)
All nine artworks are using something called "IMPLIED LINE".
WHAT IS IMPLIED LINE?
In art, an implied line is a visual path that the viewer's eye follows based on the arrangement of elements in a work, rather than a physically drawn line. These "invisible" lines are created by the way shapes, colors, or figures are positioned, suggesting a connection or direction for the viewer's gaze.

Here's the PROJECT.

In your JOURNAL,
Define line, actual line, implied line, shape, parallel line, perpendicular line,
negative space, and positive space.
Practice drawing 2 positive and 2 negative shapes using implied line.
Then practice drawing your name lightly with thick SHAPE letters.
Use line designs around it that do not define the shape, but rather hint at it.
Use lines that go perpendicular, not parallel to the shape.

When you have practiced, begin your
Implied Line Name Design.
Criteria-
-Implied NAME must be BOLD enough to see when completed. (30)
Make letters shapes thicker to avoid letters getting lost in the lines.
-Letters must be fully IMPLIED, not ACTUAL. (40)
Avoid using line designs that go PARALLEL to the letters. Use line designs that go PERPENDICULAR to the letters.
-EMPHASIZE line designs with marker. (20)
- Erase any visible guidelines originally used for the name shapes. (10)

Begin by printing name large and light on paper.
Leave some space to grow in between letters.

Trace around letters to make them a thick SHAPE (block or bubble).
Make sure there is enough space in between each letter.
*keep in mind, this will be erased later and will only leave behind what you drew around it.

THis below image is the stem on the letter M.
I am using marker to make line designs around the actual letter.
Do not draw lines that are parallel to or outline the letter.
That is an ACTUAL LINE.
We are drawing lines around the letter that will go perpendicular to it.
IN the end, after drawing line around the letters (without tracing them), we will erase the actual name we drew in pencil.

The end result is a name that is not actually there, it is implied there.
This will be the project that we glue to our poster board portfolios for the year.
All examples below are alumni students of MMS.
