What is a Color Study?
A color study is usually done to experiment with a variety of color options for a piece of art. Color can change the mood of your art dramatically. So the color choices are important when creating a piece. Often artist will practice with their options before settling on a color scheme.

Artists still today experiment with color variation on one picture.
The picture is either repeated or sliced to make a final decision of color easier.

Student Examples 2023
- Choose a subject:
Choose something you are interested in that is original.
Draw something you have practiced with or that you learned about in class
(Mushrooms, Jellyfish, Crystals, Cactus, Landscapes.)
Animal, Landscape, Object, Still life, Food, Pop Culture item, Original Character...
- Draw large on paper and divide into 6 sections...
Mushrooms divided by 6 slices.
Landscape reflection divided by 6 boxes.
———-OR———
Draw repeatedly on same paper in 6 boxes.
*To make multiple pictures, start with a sheet of paper tgst is 1/6 of your paper. Draw your design. Trace darker, trace 6 times to paper .
3. Choose a MEDIUM:
Colored Pencils (use blending techniques), Markers, Crayons, Watercolor Pencils (new tool).
- Use these color schemes for each box. Do NOT leave white.

Cool
Choice: Neutral, Grayscale, Analogous, Tints/Shades or
Triad (ay 3 colors on a triangle of the color wheel.
